Hey there,
This past Sunday, I made a point that sometimes the measure of a worshipful church is how many of the “bad singers” are actually singing during the song time. Keep this in mind!

1. We are singing to God, not people. Our praise and adoration is for God alone. Don’t worry about what others might say about your singing. Consider it a compliment!

2. Parents are pretty proud of their little kids when they sing. Even more proud when their kids write a note letting the parent know how much they are loved. How much more does our heavenly Father love genuine praise!

3. Sometimes, you just don’t feel like singing. I feel ya. However, don’t expect that to change just by standing there. Sing! Sometimes our heart follows our actions. The same goes in marriage and all other relationships. Sometimes you have to actively “love” on somebody before your heart follows. The more you think about someone, encourage them, give gifts to them, etc, the more your heart will follow!

4. Spend some time today expressing your love to God. Don’t wait for Sunday. Don’t wait for tonight. Take a moment and express your heart to God throughout the day.

5. Never be a Judas and interrupt somebody else’s worship time by making fun of them or snickering at them. Let them worship. And be careful not to make fun of other churches too! God doesn’t like it when we interrupt worship!

6. When Sunday comes and the music starts playing, give God some praise!

John 12:1-10

Somebody approached me this past Sunday as we prayed for our short term missions trips to Venezuela, Kenya, Guatemala, England, and Montana and asked me the forever asked question in regards to mission trips: “Wouldn’t it be better to just send the missionaries some extra money?” I found this article to be a great response to that question.

Short-Term Missions: Challenging the Local Church Toward Intentional and Holistic Training and Follow-up For Short Term Missions
Are Summer Mission Programs Worth It?

Beginning in 1991, CFC has been conducting short-term summer mission projects every summer. However in 1995, we brought our summer program to a temporary halt in order to evaluate the effectiveness of our trips. This period of evaluation was largely due to the summer mission budget the previous year. It was close to $100,000. The sheer force of that kind of figure forced us to stop and ask some hard questions, “Are these trips worth it?” “Wouldn’t it be much more cost effective if we sent that money to an existing missionary on the field? That missionary would be able to do so many things with that money! How many school buildings would they be able to build? How many churches? How many programs would they be able to fund? How many promising young national leaders could be formally trained?” We said to ourselves, “We better make sure we are doing the right thing with this money.” So after much careful thought and prayer, we arrived at five conditions that must be met in order for our short-term projects to be worth it.

First, it should produce lifetime missions-mindedness in people. The mission project should awaken the participants to a deep and profound awareness of God’s redemptive work on a global scale. Consequently, this should move the participants to proclaim with a burning heart, “Lord, I have heard your heartbeat for the world. I must be involved in some capacity for this great task of world evangelization!” A map of the world should forever be imprinted on the mind of the participants. Missions is no longer an afterthought, a side thing. Read More
